Buddy
Mattei has been a "working musician" in the Dallas area since
arriving here to attend the University of North Texas in 1969. His
experience includes not only public school and private teaching, but also
composing arranging, and jazz and "legit" performance.
Buddy is a graduate of the University of
North Texas where he played and later taught in the famed jazz Lab Band
program, directed by Leon Breeden. He also played in the UNT Symphonic
Band under the direction of Maurice McAdow. He was a saxophone student
in the studios of John Giradono and Dennis Guillome, studied arranging with
Lew Gillis, and improvisation with Rich Matteson. His writing and arranging credits include colleges, high schools of all sizes, junior highs, and churches. His published arrangements and compositions include marching, concert band, and jazz ensemble. His Kjos publication "Exordium" was on the Texas UIL AAA contest list for 8 years. He also wrote several arrangements for Charles Forque and the Plano Senior High School's annual concerts with "Doc" Severinsen. Buddy left public school teaching in 1999 to assume his current position as Director of Music Ministries, Stonebridge United Methodist Church in McKinney, Texas. Under his leadership the music ministry has continued to grow and has become well know for excellence and variety. He writes and arranges for the various choral and instrumental ensembles at the church and was instrumental in the production of four CDs there. |
After retiring from a 30 year career as a band director & administrator, Marilyn Mattei currently teaches private woodwind lessons in McKinney, Texas. She was previously director of bands in both the Princeton & Plano school districts, having started the Princeton Band on it's road to continued success in 1972. Her bands earned repeated sweepstakes awards in UIL competition, as well as earning national recognition in competitions and festivals throughout the country. Her Princeton High School Band was named TMEA State Honor Band Finalist 3 times. They also appeared in the State Marching Band finals several times in both AA & AAA classifications. During her tenure as an administrator, Marilyn continued to work with the Princeton Bands on a volunteer basis and had the privilege of assisting the directors of Princeton's Clark Middle School when that band became the first ever Class C TMEA Honor Band. While in Plano, she was associate band director at Bowman Middle School, as well as head director and Fine Arts Department chair her final year of public school teaching. In addition to teaching private woodwind lessons, Marilyn is available to conduct master classes & workshops for both students and directors. She holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of North Texas & a Masters in Educational Administration from Texas A&M Commerce. While at UNT she played in the Symphonic Band under the direction of Maurice McAdow and studied clarinet with Dr. Lee Gibson and Jess Youngblood.
