Buddy Mattei has been a "working musician" in the Dallas area since arriving here to attend the University of North Texas in 1969. His experience includes not only public school and private teaching, but also composing arranging, and jazz and "legit" performance.
Buddy is a graduate of the University of
North Texas where he played and later taught in the famed jazz Lab Band
program, directed by Leon Breeden. He also played in the UNT Symphonic
Band under the direction of Maurice McAdow. He was a saxophone student
in the studios of John Giradono and Dennis Guillome, studied arranging with
Lew Gillis, and improvisation with Rich Matteson. His writing and arranging credits include colleges, high schools of all sizes, junior highs, and churches. His published arrangements and compositions include marching, concert band, and jazz ensemble. His Kjos publication "Exordium" was on the Texas UIL AAA contest list for 8 years. He also wrote several arrangements for Charles Forque and the Plano Senior High School's annual concerts with "Doc" Severinsen. Buddy left public school teaching in 1999 to assume his current position as Director of Music Ministries, Stonebridge United Methodist Church in McKinney, Texas. Under his leadership the music ministry has continued to grow and has become well know for excellence and variety. He writes and arranges for the various choral and instrumental ensembles at the church and was instrumental in the production of four CDs there. Marilyn and Buddy live in McKinney with top dog, Lucy. |
For Clarinets Only During her tenure as an administrator, Marilyn continued to work with the Princeton Bands on a volunteer basis and had the privilege of assisting the directors of Princeton's Clark Middle School when that band became the first ever Class C TMEA Honor Band. Many of the teaching methods and attention to the instructional sequence of For Clarinets Only are the result of her years of experience as a middle school instructional leader. While in Plano, she was both associate and head band director at Bowman Middle School, earning first divisions in both concert and sight-reading with the Symphonic and Concert bands. In addition to teaching private woodwind lessons, Marilyn is available to conduct master classes & workshops for both students and directors. See clinics and workshops for a description of her clarinet clinics. She holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of North Texas & a Masters in Educational Administration from Texas A&M Commerce. While at UNT she played in the Symphonic Band under the direction of Maurice McAdow and studied clarinet with Dr. Lee Gibson and Jess Youngblood. Marilyn and Buddy live in McKinney with top dog, Lucy. |
